Walking down the streets of historical San Miguel De Allende, the cities old world charm, accompanied by cobblestone streets and enchanted gardens hidden behind unassuming doorways, set the tone for this magical wedding weekend for Javier and Alejandra.

The entire weekend was filled with authentic food, mariachis, dancing and good times. A traditional walk in the park with a mariachi, walking puppets and traditional donkey started the list of events. There was something special about this destination where family and friends could come together and this destination wedding was something out of a fairytale. Not to mention all the great food we encountered along the way!

Getting around town with a small car is one of the best pieces of advice we were given. Just whatever you do, watch out for the worlds largest speed bumps! Roads can be tricky and switch from paved to loose gravel with no notice. Bring lots of converted money, as it is a very big tourist spot, however, we only ran into two vendors that accepted US cash.

Food and coffee were main attractions throughout the city. Just do some research and look for the small places that fill up fast. One of our favorite restaurants was up against the church and had tight rope walkers and a live DJ playing at night. There’s so much to do even after the wedding, San Miguel De Allende is a place of old world beauty and charm. Not only a great backdrop for weddings, but a beautiful travel destination in itself.

Now if we have more time we will for sure take the 3 hour drive to Tolantongo.
